Troubleshooting

Common link preview issues & how to fix them.

Broken social previews cost clicks. Here are the most frequent problems and what to do about them. Read the full troubleshooting guide →

No preview card appears

Fix: Add og:title, og:description, and og:image in your page <head>. Ensure tags are server-rendered, not injected by JavaScript.

Wrong or outdated image

Fix: Update og:image to the correct URL, then refresh the cache using the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector.

Title or description truncated

Fix: Keep titles under 60 characters for Facebook and descriptions under 160 for Google. Our validator shows per-platform limits.

Image looks blurry or cropped

Fix: Use 1200×630 px at 1.91:1 aspect ratio. Avoid small images below 600×315 px.

SPA / React site shows blank preview

Fix: Crawlers do not run JavaScript. Put OG tags in server-rendered HTML or use SSR/prerendering.

FAQ

Open Graph & link preview FAQ

What is a social media link preview?

A link preview is the card shown when you share a URL on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack, WhatsApp, and other platforms. It is built from Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags in your page HTML.

What are Open Graph meta tags?

Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type) tell social platforms how to render your link. Without them, platforms may show a blank card or pull incorrect text from your page.

What is the recommended OG image size?

Use 1200×630 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio) for Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and most platforms. Pinterest prefers 1000×1500 (vertical). X works best at 1200×675.

Why is my link preview showing the wrong image?

Platforms cache previews aggressively. Update your og:image tag, then use the platform debugger (Facebook Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector) to force a refresh.

Why does my preview work on Facebook but not X/Twitter?

X prefers Twitter Card tags (twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:image). If missing, X falls back to Open Graph tags — but explicit Twitter tags give you more control.

Do Open Graph tags help with SEO?

OG tags do not directly change search rankings, but better social previews increase click-through rates and engagement — which can drive more traffic and backlinks over time.

Do I need an account to use this tool?

No. Social Link Preview is 100% free with no sign-in, no credit card, and unlimited URL checks.
